Guilford County, North Carolina (pop 488,406) is recruiting for a results oriented County Manager with excellent management skills and a high level of integrity and vision. Guilford County lies in the Piedmont Triad area of north-central North Carolina strategically located in relation to the cities of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point. The County is governed by a nine-member Board of Commissioners, elected for staggered four year terms, with the County Manager serving as Chief Administrative Officer. The FY 2013 budget is $587.5 million and the County maintains its AAA, Aaa and AAA bond ratings from Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s and Fitch rating agencies respectively. The approved County budget provides funding for 2,437 full-time equivalent staff who provide a full range of well-developed and customer friendly services for the community. Minimum requirements for the position include a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, finance or related field with a master’s degree desirable. Candidates should possess a substantial amount of public and/or private sector management experience as a manager, deputy or assistant in a comparably sized or larger city or county or business environment with more experience preferred. Past experience of qualifying candidates must show a high level of interest and successful achievement in a broad range of areas including public finance, succession planning, community building, economic and community development, working with and understanding the needs of existing businesses, building Board and community consensus, assessing organizational effectiveness and building performance based organizations. A progressive record of strong, open and visionary professional administrative leadership is an important consideration.
